Astaghfirullah Meaning and When to Say It
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ
Astaghfirullāh
"I seek forgiveness from Allah"
Astaghfirullah means "I seek forgiveness from Allah". Astaghfirullah is istighfar: asking Allah to forgive one's sins. The Prophet ﷺ, though forgiven, sought Allah's forgiveness many times every day.
When to Say Astaghfirullah
- Three times straight after the salam of each obligatory prayer.
- After a mistake or sin, together with resolving not to repeat it.
- Throughout the day, as a regular dhikr.
Where It Comes From
By Allah, I seek Allah's forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day.
