SubhanAllah Meaning and When to Say It
سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ
Subḥān Allāh
"Glory be to Allah"
SubhanAllah means "Glory be to Allah". SubhanAllah, the tasbih, declares Allah free of every imperfection. It is said in wonder at His creation and is one of the most repeated forms of dhikr.
When to Say SubhanAllah
- 33 times after each obligatory prayer, before Alhamdulillah and Allahu Akbar.
- When amazed by something, or when descending while travelling.
- In bowing and prostration in prayer (Subhana Rabbiyal Azim / A'la).
Where It Comes From
Two words are light on the tongue, heavy on the scale and beloved to the Most Merciful: SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, SubhanAllahil Azim.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6406, Sahih Muslim 2694
