Inshallah Meaning and When to Say It

إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

In shā’ Allāh

"If Allah wills"

Inshallah means "If Allah wills". Inshallah is said when speaking about anything in the future. It acknowledges that nothing happens unless Allah wills it, while the speaker still intends and plans to do it.

When to Say Inshallah

  • When promising or planning to do something: "I'll see you tomorrow, inshallah."
  • When hoping for something to happen.
  • It shouldn't be used as a polite way of saying no to something you don't intend to do.

Where It Comes From

And never say of anything, "I will surely do that tomorrow," except [when adding], "If Allah wills."
